Systems and people support for small business
How many times has some version of this run through your head?
I'll get on top of the backend after this next busy patch.
It'd be quicker to do it myself than explain it all to someone else.
It's my business. I should be able to sort this myself.
And then the busy patch ends, and there's another one right behind it. A kid gets sick. A new client pops up (and you can't exactly turn down paying work to go and rename folders). So the sorting-it-out gets moved to soon. It lives there now. The perpetual soon.
Someone asks for a document and you send it in ten seconds, because there's exactly one place it would be.
You hand something off and it comes back done properly - the way you'd do it - without you hovering.
You take an actual day off, and nothing catches fire. Not even a whiff of smoke.
None of that needs a different brain, a quieter month, or perfection. (Good news, because none of those are coming.) It needs the right support beams: systems built around how you and your business actually work, so the place holds itself up instead of sitting precariously on your shoulders.
That's what I build. I'm Jess, and this is exactly the loop (weeds, cycle: insert your fav buzzword here) I help small business owners out of.
You could absolutely do it yourself. That was never in question. It's just never made it past "soon". That's the bit we sort, together.
My work sits under "systems and people consulting", which sounds tidier than what actually happens.
What actually happens: we have a chat. A proper one. I get to know how you work, how your business works, how your people work - and, just as importantly, how your brain likes to do things. Then we work backwards from there.
Because my job isn't to hand you a rigid manual or a corporate framework with your logo swapped in. It's to build around you - the scaffolding that makes your business easier to run and better to be in. For you, for your clients, for anyone who ever works alongside you. That's the "people experience" in People Experience Partners: not paperwork, the whole experience of being in and around your business. Yours included.
(If you want the longer story of why I work this way, that's over on the About page. Short version: close to two decades in real workplaces, big and small - corporate rigour kept, red tape left behind - and a slightly overactive pattern-spotting brain.)
Every engagement is shaped around the specific thing that's costing you the most.
Some of the usual suspects:
The thousand unread. The files across three drives. The "I know it's here somewhere" spiral. We build one home for everything, so your morning starts with work instead of triage.
The hard conversations, the performance stuff, the how-do-I-actually-be-the-boss-I-want-to-be questions. Honest, kind, and built for a small team where every relationship matters.
If bringing someone in is on the horizon, the work you do before the job ad decides how it goes. We lay the foundations so your new person walks into a role that's actually ready for them - expectations written down, a first week that doesn't depend on you narrating everything live, and no quiet worry that they can tell you're winging it.
The way things get done in your business, written down so it can be handed over, followed and repeated - by a future hire, a VA, or just you on a foggy Tuesday. (The industry calls these SOPs. You don't need to know that. That's my job.)
Yes, you could use AI for a lot of this stuff - and frankly, some of it you probably should. If you want AI in your corner but don't know where to start, I can help with that too; some work days I talk to Claude more often than real people (IYKYK). But I was learning my way around Claude long before the great ChatGPT-to-Claude migration of late 2025, and if there is one thing you allow me to teach you, let it be this: if you want really decent output from your AI, you need to know what you're asking it for. You need to know where it should be finding your answers, you need to know how to check its sources - and if AI is putting anything into the world on your behalf, you need to know how to make sure it's correct.
The whole thing in 1 paragraph (That list is the systems flavour, but you get the idea): 1. Hit me with the details. 2. We yap out the problem. 3. We plan a solution that fits your situation. 4. We get to work. 5. You learn how to do the thing yourself - we high-five and part ways.
The how's & why's of PEP pricing You can download my Project Estimate Pricing Guide (I really hope you see what I did there) at the bottom of this page for detailed pricing info.
In short: I package my projects and you'll have a quote in your hands shortly after your free consult if you're considering enlisting my help. But I want you to know that I deliberately chose this space to share my knowledge. I chose the solo owners, the micro business, the small-but-mighty team (obviously because we are more fun!) and I price my projects accordingly, with your size and budget in mind. Maximum value, minimum possible price (I still have a family to feed as they say).
Of course you can. You built an entire business - you're clearly not short on capability.
But if there is one thing the family-and-career juggle has taught me, it's that capability and capacity are two entirely different beasts. And the gap between them isn't free. Every week the backend stays in your head, it quietly charges you rent: the twenty-minute triage before you can start, the eight-minute document hunts, the explaining of the same thing for the fourth time. Add it up across a month and the cost of waiting is usually bigger than the cost of fixing it. You don't have to take my word for that - bring your numbers to the consult and we'll do the maths together.
And one more thing, because it matters: nobody knows your business better than you. You're right about that. It's exactly why the whole process starts with a conversation, and why nothing gets built without you in it. Bringing in help with the scaffolding isn't handing over your business. It's the same smart call you'd cheer any of your own clients for making.

"Working with Jess from People Experience Partners has been a dream! She is SO knowledgeable and professional, has great communication skills and has taught me soooo many things without making me feel dumb. Jess really knows her stuff and she really knows how to help you tick all the boxes in your small business without feeling overwhelmed. I'm feeling so accomplished and even a little bit smarter!"
- Tess, Nest Mildura
Tess isn't a stock quote, by the way. When we started working together, Nest Mildura sat at around 100 members; six months later it passed 400. Her teaching and her community did that - my job was building the launch systems underneath, so every launch got easier instead of harder.
If any of this page felt a little too specific, here's all you need to do: book a free 30-minute chat about what's actually going on in your business.
It's not a sales call. If what you really need is an employment lawyer, a bookkeeper, or just a bit more breathing room before you're ready to build - I'll say so, and point you there. And if we're the right fit, you'll leave knowing exactly what we'd build together and where we'd start.
Either way, you'll walk out with more clarity than you walked in with.
